San Miguel Board Elects New Directors and President after SMC President retires. 

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) announced the election of two new members of its board of directors who will represent Kirin Brewery Co. Ltd. following the Japanese brewer's acquisition of a 15% minority stake in SMC. Elected at a special board meeting today (March 6) were Naomichi Asano, Chief Executive Officer of Kirin International and Managing Director of Kirin Brewery Co. Ltd., and Shigeki Ota, Chief Operating Officer of Kirin International. They replaced Francisco C. Eizmendi, Jr. and Faustino F. Galang.

At the same meeting, the board elected Ramon S. Ang as San Miguel President and Chief Operating Officer vice Eizmendi who has retired. Ang will continue to serve as Vice Chairman, and Eizmendi will stay on as Consultant to the Office of the Chairman.

Mr. Francisco C. Eizmendi Jr. retires as President and Chief Operating Officer, after 45 years of service to the Company. He will continue to stay in SMC as Consultant to the Office of the Chairman.

Eizmendi joined San Miguel as a quality control engineer in 1956 right after graduating with a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Santo Tomas. He was among the pioneers in methods analysis in SMC, eventually holding managerial positions in the Company's corporate systems and methods analysis and control from 1965 to 1969.

He also served as Division Manager of SMC's Management Services after serving successive stints as director of Data Processing Services, Management Information and Systems, and San Miguel's Senior Management Committee.

Prior to serving as President in 1987, Eizmendi served as Senior EVP and COO.
